For the statement about how STD’s come about from people who are immoral and have low status, I think it is absurd. Some people are just curious and you don’t know if your partner has it or not unless they get tested and tell the truth. There are many different views about sex and people shouldn’t be brought down for how they feel sexually about their partners. And having multiple partners is not always the case. A person may have STD’s from a previous partner and not even know it because of trust. It is in human nature that we crave and have urges for someone we do care about and it’s not just low class or being promiscuous either.

Prenatal testing is important because it gives mother and children a higher safety for survival. Mothers get worried that something would go wrong during the pregnancy. Prenatal testing can help mothers expect some of the challenges or no challenges at all. I believe that mothers should test regularly so they know what is going on with their child and their own bodies as well. The parents should be aware that some babies can get abnormalities and it is very important to make sure the child is in the right positions as well when growing normally in the womb.

Contraceptives Blog 5

Some cultures, beliefs, and practices influence contraceptive decision making either they will use them or have strong beliefs not to take/or use them. If a person is sexually active there are numerous ways to protect yourself and partner whether it is birth control, condoms, or even abstinence. In Catholic belief, the contraceptive that is given would be abstinence. I went to a Catholic school in elementary school and the teachers would talk about that in 6^th to 8^th grade. When growing up in a conserved Filipino family and which was also Catholic we believed in abstinence. I remember Sister Elizabeth Ann telling the whole class, “wait until your married”. My sister became sexually active in high school; my mother found out and took her to the doctor. The doctor convinced my mother to give her a depo shot. That changed my mother’s mind despite her being Catholic.

Sex education should be taught at nation's public schools. It should be taught so pre-teen and teenagers can understand what it means and/or consequences that can become of having sex. For students to be given the right education about sexual intercourse can lead to better decisions and safer ones as well. I think they should teach kids to be abstinence but also teach the teens that if they are going to have sex be protected. Not all teens are going to be pure but there can be facts that can lead them to be more protected for themselves and thier partners. Teaching students about diseases and infections can also be an eye opener to teens having sex, it is very crucial to bring those subjects in as well, not to scare them but to be more careful and to pick their partners carefully.

I would rate my preventive practices around normal. I know I’m not perfect but I also know I can do a whole lot better with my choices. I can improve my health by not going out to eat junk food and cook actual healthy meals. I can start exercising more like I used to and really enforced exercise in my life.

Encouraging the youth would be easy by showing emotional videos and giving them reminders like the WWJD bracelets and of course it would be a different slogan. The adolescence that actually could be touched mentally would benefit from seeing what they might turn into. Health classes outside of school could help as well and to raise children’s self-esteem.  If there were high statistics the local news could cover a story on health.

I know there is a lot of suffering in the world but I never thought the statistics in the United States would be this high. The most concerning views that I saw were that women are more prone to having so many health issues compared to men. An example would be "Women had higher rates of postoperative blood clots and lower rates of postoperative septicemia then men." (Women's Health Care in the United States, Gender) Depending on the race as well, some were more susceptible to having both or one of these complications after their surgeries.



I believe that access to healthcare is a right and a privilege. The situations of patients who go in to an emergency room or a hospital really depend. Seeing people giving birth, having a heart attack, getting into horrible accident, and the list goes on and are notorious reasons to go to a hospital. But when people go to the hospital to live there or literally just get drunk to be taken care of is horrible on all levels. When I was in high school a patient who in fact was drunk made a huge scene, and distracted the nurses from seeing a suicidal patient leave the hospital. I was the only one who saw her leave because of the drunken man.



Health care is steadily progressing but the way I feel about it is that Health care should be so much better. We are in a time period where people are doing so much research that turning left and right someone is inventing something or figuring out how to utilize materials around them. They spend millions of dollars trying to figure out how they can save more lives but in the end the researchers can't use them.

There are so many concerns about health issues. I am most concerned about heart attacks, asthma, and breast cancer. These health issues concerns me because they have been a part of my life. My father was taken away from me unexpectedly by a heart attack, my sister has asthma, and my future mother in law had breast cancer.


I interviewed my sister and her concern about health was also asthma because she has a child. Every week she will have a asthma attack and unfortunately it’s very frequent. She gets worried it might take her away from raising her daughter and living the life has right now.

Also I interviewed one of my friends and she was concerned about cancer. Her aunt had cancer and went through chemotherapy. She was in so much pain and agony that it was unbearable to go through seeing that process.
