For the statement about how STD’s come about from people who are immoral and have low status, I think it is absurd. Some people are just curious and you don’t know if your partner has it or not unless they get tested and tell the truth. There are many different views about sex and people shouldn’t be brought down for how they feel sexually about their partners. And having multiple partners is not always the case. A person may have STD’s from a previous partner and not even know it because of trust. It is in human nature that we crave and have urges for someone we do care about and it’s not just low class or being promiscuous either.
I agree with you! Anyone who has sex is at risk for STDs, men and women. That is why I feel our culture and society should help reinforce the information which our schools and families are trying to get across to our children. Hopefully the morals we teach and information we present to them will make them second guess there actions, but the media is not helping! The media is a huge factor in what our kids believe in today. Movies, TV shows, even the music or videos imply that pre-martial and sex with multiply people is part of the norm. As a parent of two young children it is hard to see this happening to our society. Maybe they should start putting information about STDs in the media today to help reinforce the morals and values we teach our kids and about sex education!

In the past, having an STI automatically labelled a woman as low-class and promiscuous - a "loose woman". Of course we know today that that opinion is not necessarily valid. A young woman who is a virgin on her wedding day can contract an STI from her husband who was sexually active prior to the wedding. A couple of blogs ago, I told about a young relative who has discovered that her fiance has AIDS. He never knew he was HIV positive until he became ill. She is very fortunate that she has not contracted HIV but now their lives and future are in jeopardy because of his past behavior. Our children need to be educated about the extreme risk of STIs and how very easy it is to become infected. Their very lives may depend on it.
