- What can be done to reduce the stigma and shame that still surround mental illness?
There are many things that can be done to reduce some form of specific mental illnesses. In the text book Women's Health it says that "Biological, psychosocial, and environmental factors, and even the food a person eats all influence mental health." (Alexander LaRose, p.335) One way for sure to reduce shame on mental health is eatting properly. Nutrition is a good way to help people with mental disorders to calm them down. Eating properly and having regular meals help people have a more positive personality. Foods that have caffeine, sugars, and alcohol play a toll on the stressors of a persons mental health.
I agree with your assessment on what can be done to reduce the stigma and shame of mental illness. It is amazing that what we put into our bodies have positive and/or negative effects on our physical and mental bodies. I am beginning to believe fast food restaurants and foods that are severely processed have severe impacts on our physical and mental health. Perhaps if there were more public service announcements about the dangers of certain foods, our physical health may improve and studies now reveal our mental health may improve as well. It may not change everyone; however, it certainly is a start.
